Liberal Party, European Action sign merger agreement
The Liberal Party and the European Action Movement have signed a merger agreement whereby the latter will be absorbed. Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on this occasion that after the merger the party will have one president, but several leaders, including Veaceslav Untila, the current president of EAM, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Our citizens will vote for values, not for people, because values remain, whereas people come and go. (…) We have always been that sort of politicians who promote values, because without values there is no genuine democracy, which eventually brings liberty, justice and welfare”, declared Mihai Ghimpu.
Ghimpu said the merger will not influence the party's political course, as it will continue to consist of people who share liberal, national and European values. He added that the merger will make it easier for the voters to chose.
The merger comes just in time for the local general elections. “The Liberal Party's team will be reinforced by experienced and devoted people, and we hope we will convince the voters we are the best”, declared Ghimpu.
The merger is yet to be formally approved by the Liberal Party's National Assembly on Sunday, March 13.
