The Chisinau councilors gathered on Thursday being convened by Eduard Musuc, elected on June 6 as president of the Municipal Council (CMC) with the vote of 27 councilors. The Liberal Faction (PL) and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) faction have questioned the legality of the sitting. It anyway has begun with a series of festive moments. The PL councilors congratulated general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca on the occasion of being invested into the position one year ago, on June 25. They also offered as a gift red flags with hammers and sickles to Eduard Musuc, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I do not recognize Eduard Musuc as the CMC president. This sitting is illegal,” Mihai Ghimpu, the PL leader, said. According to him, paradoxical is the fact that namely the person guaranteeing the legality of the CMC's decisions, the secretary Valeriu Didencu, signed the decision dismissing Mihai Ghimpu and the ones electing Eduard Musuc. “Thus Didencu legalized the multiple infringements committed by the grouping of PCRM, PPCD, PSD and PUCM at the sitting of June 6, 2008. He however acknowledged the court will announce the verdict. The AMN faction leader, Pavel Caba, has said the situation within the CMC is exclusively because of the head of the state. According to him, the attempt of overthrowing the municipal administration has been there since Vladimir Voronin stated early elections are necessary in the capital. Pavel Caba says the democratic factions in the CMC should give up their political amours propres and to find a way to re-make the coalition in order to counteract the Communists' interests. “Otherwise, there could be major risks the work of the mayor and the CMC may be blocked,” Pavel Caba underlined. Meanwhile, Eduard Musuc has said anyone can sue the legality of Thursday's sitting. Communist councilor Valerii Pavlov has accused Mihai Ghimpu of continuing the havoc in the CMC and of disturbing the sitting. “We have witnessed this chaos for a year. Now, although you have moved to the hall, you don't stop challenging. It is clear the PL faction does not want to work for the citizen.” Valerii Climenco from Ravnopravie has said Mihai Ghimpu is main responsible for strengthening the PCRM's positions following the chaos in the CMC. The councilors anyway have voted for an order of the day and started to examine it. Ordered by the new CMC president, the police allowed in only the councilors, City Hall functionaries, and journalists. Some councilors have accused Musuc of breaching the law on the free access to the sittings. Musuc explained that, “on June 19, some armed people entered the floor and there were threats.” Eduard Musuc says plans are made to show the session's works on a big screen in the City Hall.
