Officials of the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau commemorated three years of the Smolensk plane accident of April 2010, which killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and another 96 Polish officials. The event was attended by acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat, IPN reports.
Polish Ambassador to Moldova Artur Michalski said the commemorative plaque placed near a Polish library on Lech Kaczynski St is a very important place. “We are glad that such a plaque exists in Chisinau. It will remind the people about the Polish president,” he stated.
Vlad Filat laid flowers at the commemorative plaque and lit a candle in memory of those who passed away.
According to the Embassy of Poland, in Moldova there are about 20,000 citizens of Polish origin.
The plane crashed on April 10, 2010. The officials were to take part in the ceremonies to commemorate 70 years of the massacre of Polish officers in Katyn, nor far from Smolensk.
