Leanca: Moldova's progress towards visa liberalization is rather good
“Moldova's progress towards visa liberalization is rather good and I hope that by the end of 2012 Moldova can report positive results”, stated Foreign Minister Iurie at a talk show on Publika TV, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The chance of obtaining this regime depends on our efforts. We had 41 actions contained in this program and it's up to us how fast we will further move to adjust the legal framework and implement these modifications. It depends on how well we can do our homework”, declared Iurie Leanca.
According to the minister, with the introduction of the liberalized visa regime, the Moldovan citizens who left abroad illegally will be able to come back home on vacation.
Iurie Leanca reiterated he would step down if Moldova didn't obtain this liberalized visa regime with the EU by the end of 2012.
Victor Chirila, director of the Foreign Policy Association, stated at the same talk show that we should expect visa liberalization to be postponed for Moldova if the country failed to fulfill its commitments contained in European documents.
Political analyst Anatol Taranu noted that the current political situation was so complex that the government could change overnight and priorities would change with it, leaving people disillusioned. However analyst Igor Botan expressed his hope that the current opposition would assume a rational attitude towards the visa liberalization issue if it came to power.
