Lawyer suspected of asking for €4,000 for hushing up murder

A lawyer from Balti was arrested on corruption-related charges in the evening of September 24. He is suspected of asking for €4,000 for influencing the psychiatric medical-legal commission to issue a conclusion favorable to a man charged with attempted murder, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer said the doctors were to declare the defendant without discernment in the moment the crime was committed so as to escape punishment.

Officers of the National Anticorruption Center documented the transmission of the money to the lawyer in several installments. The lawyer was caught in the act of taking the last installment. When being questioned, he admitted his guilt. He was placed under arrest for 72 hours. If he is found guilty, he will pay a fine of up to 80,000 lei or will serve two to six years in jail.
