Lawmakers urged to ban propagation of homosexuality

The public associationsMoldova Mea” and “Pro Ortodoxia” called on the MPs to pass a bill banning the propagation of homosexuality. “Moldova Mea” chairman Fiodor Ghelici told a news conference that he will have a meeting with the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin and will ask him to promote such a bill, IPN reports.

Fiodor Ghelici said he possesses information that the sexual minorities at the start of June intend to stage a parade that will involve guests from abroad. “I personally will sue these persons for harming my dignity and the dignity of my family. If we allow our rights to be infringed, a civil war will start. We cannot allow the minorities to violate the rights of the majority,” he stated.

According to him, the passing by Parliament of the Law on Equality of Chances does not offer the sexual minorities the right to break the law. The law wasn’t passed to promote homosexuality. Fiodor Ghelici said he will insist that the bill banning the propagation of sexual minorities should stipulate punishment for those who break this law, including jail terms.

”Pro Ortodoxia” head Ghenadie Valuta said that many countries adopted laws to ban the propagation of sexual minorities, including Russia and Ukraine. “We will see our lawmakers as if in a mirror when they vote on this bill,” he stated.

Last May, the legislative body adopted the Law on Equality of Chances that defines a mechanism for ensuring equal chances for the Moldovans in labor, education, access to goods and public services. The vote in Parliament was anticipated by a series of protests, organized mainly by representatives of the religious community. They demanded excluding the provisions concerning the sexual minorities from the law.
