The legislative initiative aimed at supporting farmers affected by drought will not be voted on by Parliament this week. Alexandr Trubca, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry, IPN reports that the project has yet to receive government approval.
"It was supposed to reach Parliament this week, but it hasn’t been finalized. We are waiting for the government’s opinion, and based on yesterday’s consultations, we will refine the project. At best, it will be ready next week", said the parliamentarian, who is one of the authors of the initiative.
On the other hand, farmers have expressed dissatisfaction with the delays in passing the law. "Over a month was wasted drafting this law to stop the chaos in agriculture. Only then could financing mechanisms be discussed. But after yesterday’s show, congratulations, dear farmers, this is the attitude: the moratorium law isn’t even on the agenda", stated farmer Sergiu Stefanco.
When contacted by IPN, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Vasile Șarban, said the ministry has done everything possible to expedite the project’s submission to the government.
"It was sent for approval because it involves financial aspects, including relationships between economic agents. The document has been finalized, forwarded to the government, and is awaiting approval", noted Vasile Sarban.
The legislative initiative was drafted by PAS deputies Alexandr Trubca and Viorel Barda. Among its key measures, the proposal includes instituting a moratorium on overdue debts accumulated by farmers before the law comes into force, as well as on installments or payments due by October 31, 2025.
