Law on migration points passed in second reading

Parliament adopted the draft law on the setting up of migration points on the administrative line that separates the two banks of the Nistru River in the second reading. The six points will serve the foreigners who enter Moldova through the Transnistrian segment. The bill was carried with an amendment stipulating that the law does not apply to the residents of the Transition region, including those who do not have Moldovan passports, IPN reports.

The bill was adopted by the votes of the lawmakers of the government coalition and the Liberal MPs. The Communists weren’t in the hall when the bill was put to the vote. Unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea voted against.

Speaker Igor Corman said the law represents an important step forward on the path to European integration and its adoption forms part of Moldova’s commitments to the EU. The Moldovan authorities assured that the migration points will not hamper the people’s movement.

The law takes effect when it is adopted.
