Lasconi after discussion with Maia Sandu: "She told me that she understands better than anyone else how much pressure is exerted on me"

Elena Lasconi, the candidate of the Save Romania Union (USR) party, who reached the runoff presidential election in Romania, said on Wednesday that she had a discussion with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, IPN reports.

"She told me that she understands better than anyone else how much pressure is exerted on me and that I should think that it is everyone's responsibility, as regards the path we want to choose, whether it is European or not. I do not manage to detach myself. I endeavor to give the best of myself every day, so that the result is Elena Lasconi, that is the European path," said Lasconi.

The President’s Office did not publish any press release about this discussion, but Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Parliament and leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), on December 3 publicly urged the Moldovans with Romanian citizenship to go out and vote in Romania’s runoff presidential election, and support the USR candidate Elena Lasconi.

In the runoff vote scheduled for Sunday, December 8, Elena Lasconi will compete against independent candidate Călin Georgescu.

In the first round of voting held on November 24, Georgescu obtained 22.94% of the ballot, and Lasconi gained 19.18%, according to the final results presented by the Central Election Bureau.

Former journalist Elena Lasconi, the candidate of the Save Romania Union, ranked first, with over 56% of the preferences of Romanian voters in the Republic of Moldova, in the first round of the Romanian presidential election.
