The leader of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, Vadim Krasnoselski, held a meeting with the US Chargé d’Affaires in Moldova, Kevin Covert. The meeting, which took place on December 18 in Tiraspol, was set against the backdrop of a potential energy crisis due to the possible halt of Russian gas supplies to the unrecognized republic after December 31, 2024, reports IPN.
Krasnoselski stated that the central topic of the discussions was energy security, which is currently "causing significant concerns" in the region. Given the ongoing uncertainty regarding natural gas supplies in 2025, the parties exchanged views on possible ways to reduce tensions and minimize the crisis's impact on the population.
The regional leader emphasized during the discussion that Tiraspol is interested in stable cooperation with external partners, including the United States, to ensure the sustainability of the energy system.
Kevin Covert highlighted the importance of dialogue between the parties to maintain stability and find mutually beneficial solutions.
The discussion also touched on a broader range of topics, including human rights, humanitarian initiatives, and ensuring the conditions for peaceful coexistence among all parties involved in the conflict.
