Constituency No. 17 comprises the town of Nisporeni together with other 22 settlements in the district, as well as other 3 localities in Straseni district. Voters will be casting their ballots at the polling stations 17/1 through 17/50. The candidate to poll most votes takes the constituency regardless of the turnout.

The first candidate listed on the ballot is the Democratic Party’s Vlad Plahotniuc, engineer, economist and jurist by training. He was an MP in 2010 and 2013, and 2014-2015, concurrently holding the post of Deputy Speaker, before being dismissed on a motion of no confidence. Previously, he chaired the board of directors of Victoriabank. He was also CEO and deputy chairman of Petrom Moldova. Plahotniuc founded the Association of Moldovan Business People and the charity “Edelweiss”. For the last two years, he declared over 15 million lei, 4.5 million euros and over 347,000 dollars in income from selling or owning stock. Plahotniuc also got nearly 1 million lei from selling assets and real property, and earned over 46,000 Swiss francs and 15,000 dollars from other legal sources. The leader of the Democratic Party also declared owning an apartment, two garages, commercial space, four vehicles and other real property.

The second is the Socialist Party’s Pavel Artamonov, a public administration specialist. According to alege2019.md, in 1999-2004 the candidate worked as a teacher and weightlifting coach at the Nisporeni sports school. During 2004-2015, he worked as a driver at the Nisporeni-based company “Tavisma”. Since October 2017, Artamonov has been a Socialist town councilman in Nisporeni. He also heads the party’s territorial organization. For the last two years, the candidate and his wife declared over 73,000 lei in salaries. They also own two cars.

Next is NOW electoral bloc’s Ion Terguță, a journalist and economist and currently vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party. In 2017, he was director of the channel TV8, and previously he was director of the MIR network’s Moldovan office. Earlier he was deputy director of the municipal news agency Info-Prim. In the last two years Ion Terguță and his wife earned 1.3 million in salaries.

The fourth is the Communist Party’s Mihail Ciorici, a retired engineer and economist. Ciorici is currently a district councilman in Nisporeni. In the last two years, he and his wife had incomes of 49,000 lei and over 248,000 lei in pensions. They also own a house and a car.
The final slot on the ballot is occupied by the independent Iurii Cărbune, economist. He is the manager of the construction company SRL “Ideal Casa”. In the last two years, he earned about 78,000 from his job, 11,000 lei for letting out a farm plot, and over 199,000 lei in fees from the district council and town council. His wife received over 32,000 lei in child care benefits. The family owns two building lots, one farm plot, three apartments, a house and two cars.
