Justice minister denies accusation that assessment of prosecutors was abandoned

Minister of Justice Fadei Nagachevski said he is surprised at the fact that the bill concerning the assessment of prosecutors is criticized by politicians, who invoked the risk that the justice sector will be brought under political control. In a posting on Facebook, referring to the criticism leveled by the PAS leader Maia Sandu in news conference, the minister wrote that no representative of the political parties that criticize formulated any proposal for adjusting the bill or alternative proposals, IPN reports.

According to Fadei Nagachevski, the public treatment of the assessment instrument as an attempt to bring the judicial system under control is not based on sound reasons. The minister wonders what goal is actually pursued by the former government that promoted the instrument for assessing judges in an evidently politicized formula that was evidently against the Constitution and the international standards.

“It is not clear how the judicial system can be subdued by the political class when the whole process is to be monitored by the development partners, while the assessment commission is to consist of five international experts and five national experts from outside the political system,” wrote Fadei Nagachevski.

He also denied the accusation that the political system abandoned the assessment of prospectors, noting this is a priority for the government in the process of revitalizing the prosecution service.
