“Jurnal de Chisianu” newspaper protested against demolishing History and Architecture Monuments
Journalists from the “Jurnal de Chisinau” newspaper, on April 18 carried on a protest action on the place of an architecture monument between the Presidency and the Ministry of Agriculture demolished 8 months ago at the command of the authorities. The event coincides with the International Day of the History Monuments.
The director of the newspaper, Val Butnaru declared to the press that “Jurnal de Chisinau” wrote for half a year, weekly about the demolish of the “Conacul Theodosiu” building, but the central authorities never gave an answer upon the real causes for destroying this architectural monument. He said that the team of the paper considered this is the only way they can make the public opinion attentive to the abuses of the authorities. “ The deal is not only about the building, but about the attitude of the authorities in the case Chisinau will no longer have a Historical Centre or interesting historic and architectonic buildings and this fact can not be ignored”, added Butnaru.
He reminded that at the time the building was demolished, in August, the demolishing squad came un-expectantly. More, the authorities have chosen an extremely good period “to do what they wanted to” because the several Newspapers from Chisinau were on vacations.
At the protest action organized by “Jurnal de Chisinau” some MP’s of the “Alianta Modova Noastra”(AMN) Parliamentary faction participated. The president of the faction Serafim Urechean declared for Info-Prim Neo that the decision to demolish this building is illegal, “because no one knew about the decision at that time and is not known anything about it by now”. He said that the representatives of AMN participate at this demonstration because they are not indifferent towards the illegal demolishing of the History Monument that was built more then 130 years ago according to the projects of the great Alexandru Bernardarzzi. “We came here to give a signal to the society not to allow the authorities destroy History Monuments”, added Urecheanu, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
