June 28, Liberals commemorate, Communists celebrate
Today is a day of double significance for the Parliament. If the Parliament’s majority, upon the request of the Liberal Party, kept a moment of silence in commemorating the events of June 28, 1940, then the Party of Communists congratulated the people with this occasion, reports Info-Prim Neo.
President of the liberal fraction Ion Hadirca stated that this is a dark day in the history of our people. “As a result of the criminal pact between Stalin and Hitler, who have split this territory, thousands of people were deported, killed and humiliated”, said the MP. On the other hand, Communist MP Oleg Garizan congratulated every citizen of Moldova with “72 years of freedom from the Romanian occupation”.
President of the Party of Democrats’ fraction Dumitru Diacov stated that Moldova had no luck with history, and has no luck with politicians. “One calls you to one side; others call you to another side. Some call you to fight against Russians, others – against Romanians. It is unbearable. We must focus on other issues”, said Diacov, mentioning that Liberals and Communists are to blame for the split in society.
Party of Liberals President Mihai Ghimpu replied that Moldova did not move forward because of people who went neither right nor left. “Do not lecture us, we know who we are”, said Mihai Ghimpu.
On June 28, 1940, Russian troops entered the territory of Basarabia, as permitted by the Ribbentrop-Molotov Treaty of Non-Aggression, signed between Germany and Russia on August 23, 1939.
