A judge of the Anenii Noi Court was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center when he was taking the last tranche of the €1,000 payoff asked from a person, IPN reports.

In a communique, the National Anticorruption Center says that according to the denouncer, the judge asked for €1,000 for passing a favorable judgment on a civil case examined by him. Initially, the judge received €600 from the informer and was caught in the act of taking the other of €400 in the evening of April 7.

The suspect was placed under arrest for 72 hours, being in the custody of the Center. He faces 7 to 15 years in jail and a fine of 160 000 to 200 000 lei for passive corruption. He can also be banned from holding public posts or performing particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
