JSC „Apa-Canal Chisinau” grants 300 employees’ forced leaves of absence

About 300 workers of JSC “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) will be given forced leaves of absence in the near future. This decision was made as a result of enterprises’ financial crises, its director, Constantin Becciev declares. The water supplier has accumulated credit debts of over MDL 200 mln, including MDL 180 which must be reimbursed to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to Becciev, the administration of ACC decided to give forces leaves of absence to 300 employees in order to save every month about MDL 1 mln. Month expenses for an employee constitute MDL 3 thousand - the wage, plus other contributions the enterprise must pay to the Social Fund. It is for the third time when thousands of employees of ACC are given forced and unpaid leaves of absence. Previously, the enterprise used this method in last year’s winter and spring. At present, because of the lack of financial resources, the workers do not have pipes, lubricants and other materials, the director of ACC says. According to him, the workers that perform reparation works in case of water leakages will be given forced leaves. The administration says that the single solution for this financial crisis is increasing the tariffs for water. At present, this issue is discussed at the meetings of Municipal Council’s committees. ACC hopes that a draft decision in this respect will be included in the agenda of Council’s first meeting. JSC “Apa-Canal Chisinau” has 2200 employees.
