John McCain disappointed by Communist leaders’ refusal to meet with him

The U.S. senator John McCain, who had been in Chisinau on a visit on June 12, said he was disappointed by the fact that the leaders of the Communist Party (PCRM) did not want to have a meeting with him. “I wanted to find out their opinion about the future of this country and was ready to respect it, even if I didn’t agree with it. Maybe next time,” the senator said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Earlier, the PCRM issued a communiqué saying that John McCain’s visit to Moldova during the election campaign represents serious interference in Moldova’s internal affairs and the democratic process of expressing the political sympathies. “Everyone knows Senator McCain’s attitude towards Moldova. He described the last several years and the past month of poor governance by the current regime in Moldova as excellent. He considers that the progressive government struggles with the internal and external forces that want to plunge the country back into darkness. This expression actually reveals which namely internal and external forces plunged Moldova into darkness and do not allow it to go out. It is evident that the Communist Party cannot have a common schedule with such forces,” it is said in the communiqué. John McCain visited Moldova at the invitation of Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
