Ivan Calin misused power on August 28, expert

Constitutional law expert Victor Popa said the oldest member of the eighteenth legislature Ivan Calin exceeded his authority. He made the statement at Tuesday’s meeting of the Constitutional Court (CC), Info-Prim Neo reports. The expert said that on August 28 Ivan Calin refused to put the agenda and the MPs’ proposals to the vote, breaking thus the law. “We consider that the 48 Communist MPs who left the assembly hall on August 28 should have thought of the consequences of such a move first,” said the expert, who represents the Parliament at the CC’s meeting. Both Victor Popa and the other representative of the Parliament, jurist and Liberal-Democratic MP Alexandru Tanase stated that the Communists constituted their parliamentary group on August 22, when there was held the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the PCRM. “This is said in the PCRM’s statement made public after the meeting. The statement said that the parliamentary group of the PCRM composed of 48 MPs is the largest and the most powerful,” Tanase stressed. The Communist MP Vadim Misin replied that the statement was purely political and that the parliamentary group was formed de facto on September 3. On August 28, Ivan Calin interrupted the Parliament’s meeting, saying that the PCRM needs time to create its parliamentary group. The Alliance for European Integration (the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN) continued the sitting and elected the Speaker.
