The leader of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leancă said the party he leads will mandatorily run in the upcoming local elections. The party didn’t disappear and will return in an active way to the political arena of Moldova, he was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel.

Iurie Leancă said the acting mayor of Chisinau municipality Ruslan Codreanu should run for the post of mayor of Chisinau in the next local elections. “When it is known when local elections will be held, either in June or in September, we will meet and discuss. He showed he is a much better manager than his predecessor,” stated the leader of the PPEM of which Ruslan Codreanu is a member.

As to his running in the European Parliament elections, the politician said the legislation does not oblige him to renounce the post of president of the PPEM if he is elected MEP on the lists of a Romanian political party.

As regards the formation of a parliamentary majority, Iurie Leancă said the Republic of Moldova needs a Government as soon as possible so that this starts work. “In the current situation, it seems normal to me if at least Maia Sandu and her team sit at the negotiating table with the PDM, invite European politicians and discuss the most pressing problems witnessed in the Republic of Moldova, including those related to the justice sector, the recovery of the stolen banking funds, economic policies,” he stated.

As to a possible coalition between the PDM and the PSRM, Iurie Leancă said this would cause an adverse reaction inside the international community. “A pro-European path cannot be followed together with the Socialists who depend so much on Moscow,” he noted, adding the Socialist leaders nevertheless know very well that only the EU will help the Republic of Moldova.
