Iurie Leanca: Moldovan-Bulgarian relations will be intensified in different areas

The Moldovan-Bulgarian relations will be intensified in different areas. Bulgaria will support the improvement of the social, economic, linguistic and cultural conditions of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova. It will also  intensify its role in supporting the European course of the Republic of Moldova. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca was assured of this while in Bulgaria on a working visit during April 4-5, IPN reports.

In a press briefing on April 6, Iurie Leanca said that in Sofia he met with the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev and Deputy Prime Ministers Ekaterina Zaharieva and Tomislav Donchev. The interlocutors noted that the potential for developing the bilateral relations is big and it is the duty of both of the states to realize this potential. “We agreed to intensify the dialogue and were assured by a number of officials that they will visit us, including Taraclia to see the problems faced by the Bulgarian community, so that we have a much closer and stronger relationship and with much better results,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

Iurie Leanca requested to extend the projects to finance Bulgarian schools in Moldova for computerizing them so that the students learn modern technologies and are able to find a job after graduation. During the visit, it was agreed that lecturers of universities of Bulgaria will come to teach at the university in Taraclia, while teachers of the University of Taraclia will go to Bulgarian universities for experience exchange. “We pleaded for the implementation of the Erasmus principle so that students from Taraclia could study at universities in Bulgaria for half a year with financing from the Bulgarian state,” said the official.

In 2017, trade between Moldova and Bulgaria came to US$ 150 million. According to Iurie Leanca, the trade between the two states rises annually by almost 20%, especially owing to the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU.
