Iurie Leanca: Government coalition should be formed by mid-January

The first vice-president of the Liberal Democratic Party and outgoing Prime Minister Iurie Leanca thinks that the new government coalition should be formed no later than mid-January. The politician told Radio Moldova on Wednesday, December 31, that so far the negotiators are discussing the principles of coalition formation and not the distribution of offices, IPN reports.

“In the end, the elections results should influence directly on the offices that each party gets. However, the most important thing is to show that we didn't fight for offices but to take responsibility and accomplish tasks for the benefit of the people, which we're good at”, said Leanca.

According to him, the three parties that are negotiating share the same goals and have the duty to create a parliamentary majority and appoint the new Government. As regards the Communists, Leanca admits that he changed his opinion about them as their party is undergoing a transformation and getting rid of radical and extremist members. The acting PM thinks that it would be perfectly normal to involve the Communists in the modernization of the country as they are a strong political force.

Leanca also spoke about the structure of the next Cabinet, saying that although slight adjustments may be needed, his experience suggests that changes should be minimal because the previous Government has performed well enough.
