Issuing licenses for legal profession delegated to Bar Association
The license for providing lawyer assistance will be issued by the Bar Association. The parliament made changes on Thursday, 22 June, in first reading, to the Law on Bar.
The draft includes many changes to the mentioned law, having as result providing more prerogatives to the professional administration structure – Bar Association – and ensuring the activity of lawyers on the principle of non-admitting the interference of the state bodies.
The changes set the creation of the License Commission of the lawyer profession as structure within the Bar. Thus, it is to organize qualification exams, adopt decisions on taking the qualification exam. The disciplinary prerogatives regarding the withdrawal of the lawyer’s license will be provided at a bigger extent to the Commission for Ethic and Order. The tasks of recording the lawyers and registering the lawyers’ offices are attributed as well to Bar Associations.
Until now the Justice Ministry performed these duties.
1,140 lawyers are registered at the Bar Association.
