The administration of the U.S. president decided to cut off funding for key media outlets, including Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL) and the Voice of America (VOA). These have, for decades, played a crucial role in combating disinformation and promoting independent media in authoritarian regimes around the world.
This decision risks negatively affecting the media climate in the Republic of Moldova and canceling a nearly 80-year U.S. commitment to ensuring free access to information.
IPN News Agency reaffirms its support for RFE/RL journalists in Moldova, appreciating their professionalism and long-term cooperation. IPN has been cooperating with Radio Free Europe since the establishment of the news agency in 2005.
RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service started work in 1997 and quickly gained the trust of the Romanian and Russian-speaking public.
The journalistic community in Moldova particularly appreciates the activity of Radio Free Europe for its contribution to quality journalism through reports on social, political, justice, education, health issues.
The work of this editorial office makes an essential contribution to the consolidation of democracy and to the efforts made by the media in the Republic of Moldova in the fight against propaganda and disinformation.
IPN News Agency urges journalists, readers and independent editorial offices to show solidarity with RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service and other media projects in danger of closure.
