July 1: The Chisinau City Hall will offer by 100,000 lei in financial support to the families of the border police officer and security agent who were killed at the Chisinau International Airport as a result of an armed attack. Money will be allocated from the municipality’s reserve funds.

July 3: The first stage of registration at lyceums in Chisinau begins on July 7 and ends on July 28. For the 2023-2024 school year, 5,520 places in 216 classes were planned. At the meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Andrei Pavaloi said that admission will take place at 98 secondary educational institutions, 83 of which are public, while 15 are private. The second enrolment stage will be held during August 7-10.

July 3: A fitness and workout ground was set up in Chisinau’s Dendrarium Park. The General Directorate for Housing and Public Amenities (DGLCA) says that two tennis and armwrestling tables were also installed here.

July 4: More than 4,000 children have already holidayed at camps outside Chisinau. Other children are yet to spend time at such camps, while the day camps in the city were already closed. For the 2023 summer season, the local public administration organized 14 day camps at educational institutions, three permanent camps, 13 sports camps outside the city and different thematic camps.

July 5: The Republic of Moldova’s brand – the Tree of Life – appeared on Grigore Vieru Blvd in central Chisinau in the form of paving. The Chisinau City Hall said the works are drawing to an end.

July 5: A day center for looking after children aged between four months and three years was opened at 29/4 Cuza Vodă St in Chisinau. Minors from families in situations of risk will receive free food adjusted to age and the individual needs and will benefit from educational activities. To facilitate the parents’ and children’s access to this social service, free season tickets for trips by public transport will be provided.

July 6: The first two side loader garbage trucks of the six purchased by the municipality arrived in Chisinau. The other four trucks will be delivered to the cleanup company “Autosalubritate” by the end of this month. The municipality said that 44 new garbage trucks will be shipped to Chisinau in the framework of the Chisinau Solid Waste Project that is financed by the Chisinau City Hall, the EBRD and E5P.

July 11: As from July, the financial support offered to long-living married couples and centenarians who have the residence visa in the municipality of Chisinau will be higher. The Chisinau City Hall said that under the Municipal Council’s decision, the financial support provided to couples when they celebrate the 50th marriage anniversary or the golden jubilee of a marriage is 5,700 lei, on the 60th wedding anniversary – 7,500 lei, on the 70th wedding anniversary – 10,000 lei per couple. Earlier, all the categories of long-living couples got by 1,000 lei. Also, the persons who are 100 years old or more will receive by 5,000 lei in financial support.

July 11: The municipality begins the inventorying of unfinished constructions situated in Chisinau, which have been conserved or abandoned for over three years. An order to this effect was signed by deputy mayor of Chisinau Ilie Ceban. The inventorying will be conducted by the district head’s offices, while the General Architecture, Urbanism and Land Relations Division, in cooperation with the Construction Authorization and Discipline Division, will present information about the permissive documents issued for these buildings.

July 11: The Moldovan capital will host a four-day festival dedicated to the 587th anniversary of the earliest public record of Chisinau. The Greetings Chisinau Festival will take place during July 14-17, with the Eugen Doga pedestrian street as its main location. The festival will be inaugurated on Friday together with the Advahov Brothers Orchestra, Zinaida Julea, Fuego, Gabriel Nebunu, Maria Iliuț and Crenguța de Iederă, Nicolae Gribincea and Plăiesii.

July 12: The “Orfeu” Curative Pedagogy Pilot Complex received electric generators from UNICEF, with the support of the Government of Croatia. According to the Chisinau municipality and donors, the generators can compensate for power outages and provide a backup power source in case of failures or emergencies. During the donation ceremony, Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of the Chisinau Directorate of Education, noted that the events in Ukraine affected energy security in the Moldovan institutions. This donation represents an important support for the institutions in the municipality of Chisinau.

July 13: Mothers and children from Moldova and also from Ukraine, who are victims of violence or are in difficulty can find shelter at a new center that was opened in Chisinau. The services will also be available to mothers with three or more children younger than 18. Deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Kutasevich said that 64 women died in Moldova the past four years due to domestic violence. If these women had had the possibility of finding shelter in a safe place, they would have saved themselves. It is the responsibility of the local authorities to take action to ensure comfort and protection for mothers and children. Having such a desideratum and realizing this need, they developed the social service Maternal placement center for mother-child couples that are victims of violence.

July 13: The General Housing and Public Amenities Division is performing works to get rid of rats and insects in basements and waste collection chambers of apartment buildings in Chisinau. The costs amount to 833,000 lei. Last week, such works were carried out in 264 apartment buildings, on an area of 135,000 square meters. In total, the responsible services during three weeks executed works in 990 apartment buildings, on an area of 576,000 square meters.

July 14: Those who want to rediscover Chisinau can come together in the Romanian city Alba-Iulia for the Days of Chisinau. On this occasion, the Principia Museum hosts a number of cultural-artistic events. The series of events started today, July 14, with the launch of the book “Identities of Chisinau. Urban Archeology”, written by Sergiu Mustață and Alexandru Corduneanu. An exhibition of documentary photographs titled “Chisinau Tramway, a page from the history of the first public transport” was mounted within the scientific project “Culture of promoting the image of the Republic of Moldova’s towns through arts and mythopoeia”.

July 15: The event to open the Festival “Greetings, Chisinau!”, which is devoted to the 587th anniversary of the first attestation of the city, brought together guests and residents of the capital city to promote the national culture and traditions. The participants in the festival could see a performance of folk music and dances and could get acquainted with craftspeople from different corners of the country, who exhibited their works at a fair on the pedestrian street “Eugen Doga”. The exhibits include sheep skin, musical instruments made from clay, leather products. Dumitru Daraban, who is an expert in skin processing, started this activity in 1988. He earlier worked in trade, but then took over the trade of his father and his grandfather. He now makes wallets, men’s and women’s belts, whips and other things from cattle skin. As motifs, he uses Dacian-Romanian symbols and flowers.

July 17: The 587th anniversary of the first documentary attestation of Chisinau is celebrated today, July 17. On this occasion, a number of cultural events will be staged in the capital city. A book exhibition centering on the city’s history and a poster exhibition entitled “Citizens of Honor of Chisinau Municipality” were mounted in the hall of the Chisinau City Hall. An exhibition of paintings by Iraida Ciobanu titled “Chisinau through Time Mills” was staged in Mihai Eminescu Square.

July 18: At the request of citizens and drawing inspiration from the experience of a number of European capitals, the municipality of Chisinau tends to become a city with modern and accessible sports and recreation infrastructure. Besides basketball, volleyball and mini-football courts inside yards and sports grounds at educational institutions, there were put up fitness and workout grounds in public spaces and yards of apartment buildings, including for persons with special needs, and also swings and chess tables. The head of the General Housing and Public Amenities Division Ion Burdiumov told about these areas and the population’s contribution to keeping public property.

July 20: Ten articulated trolleybuses purchased by the municipality will soon run on the streets of Chisinau after a period of testing. Manufactured by the Polish company Solaris Bus & Coach, the ten Solaris Trollino 18 trolleybuses come with air conditioning, ramps for people with disabilities and low floors.

July 21: Almost 100 young people from the municipality of Chisinau are taking part in a summer school held in Vadul lui Vodă. These will discuss the strategy for developing and innovating the youth sector of the municipality of Chisinau for 2023 – 2028, which was drafted by the Chisinau City Hall with the assistance of UNICEF Moldova. Mayor general Ion Ceban said that in Chisinau, the budget for the youth sector gas grown 30 times over the past four years – from 2 million lei to 60 million lei. “We allocate funds for opening youth centers, youth councilors, different services, including media and leisure time services. Next week, there will be launched the economic program for young people and migrants, for entrepreneurial education and for those who want to start a business,” stated the mayor.

July 21: Eighteen preschool educational institutions situated in suburban localities of the municipality of Chisinau will be provided with LEGO Duplo sets and cognitive toys. The effort was initiated by UNICEF and the Chisinau City Hall at kindergartens No. 24 and 144 of Colonița village. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the effort forms part of the UNICEF program for early childhood education and is designed to offer a wide range of activities to kindergartens, such as drawing, writing, storytelling, expression of feelings and emotions and others, helping the children to acquire basis skills and to develop while playing.

July 22: More than 150 people participated in the fourth edition of the Velo Road Chisinau marathon. The event brought together children, young people, seniors and whole families who rode the route set by the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center by bicycle, scooter or electric bicycle. The cyclists were accompanied by police crews, including on bicycles, to ensure the safety of the marathon participants.

July 26: The municipality has launched a pilot program titled “Start-up for young people and migrants”. This is aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship among young people and migrants from the municipality of Chisinau by facilitating the launch and development of sustainable businesses. The program is intended for persons aged between 18 and 40 who have the domicile in the municipality of Chisinau. If the business was already launched, this should be based in the municipality.

July 26: Nearly 1,000 places in the first grade remained unoccupied in the municipality of Chisinau after the two stages of admission to primary and secondary educational institutions for the 2023-2024 school year. The parents who haven’t yet enrolled their children in the first grade are urged to do it in the nesters period of time by presenting in person an application to the educational institutions that have free places.

July 27: The local public authorities of Chisinau have launched two websites to involve citizens of the capital city in the decision-making process and to ensure transparency in the activities carried out by municipal institutions. These are: proiecte.chisinau.md and transparenta.chisinau.md. The Chisinau City Hall said the website transparenta.chisinau.md is a portal structured around areas of public interest, based on reliable and official sources. On proiecte.chisinau.md, one can learn about the most important projects and events staged by the local public administration over the past few years. July 31: Two more MAN side-loader garbage trucks have arrived at the garages of the municipal waste management utility Autosalubritate. The trucks were purchased from the Serbian company Atrikod d.o.o., which was designated the winner of a tender within the Solid Waste Chisinau Project. The total value of the purchase is 1,200,013 euros. The Chisinau City Hall says in a press release that, in accordance with the supply contract, the vehicles are to be checked by international consultants and those of the Autosalubritate to determine whether they meet all the technical specifications before being put into operation.
