Ion Chicu, the presidential candidate of the Development and Consolidation Party, has pledged to enhance support for citizens who continue to work past retirement age. “These people contribute to the social insurance budget. We rely on them, particularly given the significant personnel shortages in education, healthcare, and various economic sectors”, Chicu stated during a briefing.
Chicu also addressed the situation of those who worked extensively during the Soviet era but are unable to verify their contributory periods. “We have elderly citizens, some in their 80s and 85s, who spent years working in state farms and kolkhozes, yet cannot confirm their service and therefore do not receive pensions for those years. We propose a gradual review of this issue”, he added.
The former prime minister emphasized his commitment to measures aimed at boosting the birth rate, including economic incentives. “For working mothers, we suggest a regressive tax system for social contributions. For one child, we propose reducing the contribution rate by 5 points, and for two children, by 10 points, providing mothers with additional support”, Chicu said.
He urged Moldovans to “vote rationally” and "ensure the unity of our country" on October 20.
Ion Chicu is positioned sixth on the ballot.
