The Socialist mayoral candidate Ion Ceban promises to thermally insulate a hundred apartment buildings each year in Chisinau, at a cost of 200 million lei.
In a press conference dedicated to this issue, Ceban noted that there are 3,712 apartment buildings in Chisinau, including 1,545 which are managed by municipal companies. According to him, most of these buildings lack proper insulation.
“The housing stock is in a desperate state. Especially the buildings constructed 30 or 40 years ago, which, sadly, were never given an extensive repair or an insulation upgrade. There are residents taking the matter into their own hands, but even if their intentions are good, these individual insulation works are done chaotically and we end up getting an unsightly exterior of our buildings. We want to, and we will do this in a centralized manner with public money, and will attract foreign funding for this purpose,” said Ceban.
By the time the first four-year term expires, the process will have picked up steam, says the Socialist mayoral candidate, and during the second term the number of buildings to benefit from the thermal insulation program will at least double. “This is how we solve a problem that has so far been ignored. If we implement this solution, we will be able to cut heating costs, our apartment buildings will look nicer, and more importantly our city will get back its unique architectural appearance”, declared the candidate.
