The epopee of harsh replies between the mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban and Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco continues. The mayor said the situation when the Ministry of Health included deaths from COVID-19 that occurred last year in the daily reports of last month is outrageous. According to him, this happens because of the Ministry’s incapacity to efficiently manage the pandemic and the move is aimed at distracting public attention from the record number of deaths, IPN reports.
Mayor Ion Ceban said the way in which the current Ministry of Health manages the pandemic is beyond criticism and this incompetence led to a record number of deaths from COVID-19.
“Reporting the deaths recorded in October 2020 as registered in November 2021 is shocking. They tried to distract public attention from the many deaths that continue to increase in number. With vaccine available, with a health system that went through two pandemic waves, the number of deaths rose to the highest level since the start of the pandemic owing to this bad, incompetent, nonprofessional management. They will not manage to distort these figures. Even if we presume that there were not 60, but 52 deaths, this is anyway serious. This is the worst manager of this ministry since the declaring of Independence,” Ion Ceban stated in the program “The Fourth Estate” on N4 channel.
The mayor noted that there is defective communication between the central and local public authorities, especially as regards the pandemic. He asked the Ministry of Health’s permission to start vaccination with the booster dose in Chisinau, but the central authorities haven’t yet provided any response.
“Vaccination is the best solution for diminishing risks. I asked the Ministry to allow administering the third dose to those who want. I asked for an urgent response. We cannot do this arbitrarily as this is the exclusive prerogative of the central authorities. I call on the minister to hasten the procedure. We must avoid eventual disposal of vaccine doses due to expiry,” stated Ion Ceban.
According to official data, the municipality of Chisinau has the highest rate of COVID-19 vaccination with a dose-dose series in Moldova – 39%. ATU Gagauzia gas the lowest rate, of 16%. A number of 46 deaths due to SARS-COV2 were officially reported during the last 24 hours.
