The investigation into the case concerning Petic and Verbitski, which features the ex-deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, was finished. As the suspect refused to appear before prosecutors, the prosecution asked the Ciocana Court of Chisinau to authorize the completion of the investigation into the absence of this. The case is to be sent to court, IPN reports.
The former deputy head of the GPI was investigated for framing Petic for rape and Verbitski for wearing and keeping munitions.
The prosecutors accuse Gheorghe Cavcaliuc of abuse of office and of organizing the submission of false denouncements and presentation of misleading statements and of violating the inviolability of private life. The most serious of these offenses, abuse of office, is punished with three to eight years in jail.
Update /4:34p/ Gheorghe Cavcaliuc commented on the announcement, saying that he does not know about the accusations made against him. “The last time I talked to my lawyers about this case last week. They informed me that they learned also from the press that one of the former heads of the MIA was identified as the organizer of these cases. The lawyers told name that they challenged all the illegal acts of the prosecutors in this case and asked to drop the charges against me in this political vendetta,” noted the ex-deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate.
