According to a communiqué of the Center, Ransomware is usually installed when a malicious email attachment is opened or when a malicious link in an email message or instant message or on a social networking site or other website is clicked. Ransomware can even be installed when visiting a malicious website. It encrypts files on the system’s hard drive.
To avoid getting infected, one should ensure that the computer’s software and anti-virus definitions are up-to-date and avoid suspicious sites. There is no guarantee that paying the fine or doing what the Ransomware tells will give access to the PC or files again.
Those who suffered as a result of such scams are urged to go to the closest police station or to the Center for Combating Cyber Crimes.
