More than 20,000 nurses work in Moldova at present. This is almost two thirds of all the healthcare workers. In the regions where the number of doctors is small, the nurses have to cope with many complex situations and sometimes to even replace physicians. The data were presented by the National Health Insurance Company on the occasion of International Nurses Day that is observed on May 12, IPN reports.
The World Health Organization designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. This year the theme for International Nurses Day is “A Voice to Lead: Health for All”.It underlines the essential role played by these workers in providing medical care. The nurse makes a valuable contribution in the process of caring for patients and also in their counseling and informing.
The National Health Insurance Company in 2019 allocated almost 1.414 billion lei for remunerating the over 20,000 nurses of Moldova.
International Nurses Day is an international day observed around the world on May 12 (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) of each year, to mark the contributions that nurses make to society.
