International conference on settling Transnistrian dispute to take place this autumn in Brussels

In October-November 2006 an international conference on settling the Transnistrian conflict, will take place in Brussels. The event will be organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Reintegration and by the Science Academy of Moldova. The conference is a part of the Action Plan for using, in the reintegration process of Moldova the conclusions presented in the report “Unfreezing a conflict: aspects of the separatist crisis in Moldova”, elaborated by the Bar Association of New York city. According to the same plan, Chisinau will solicit to the parliaments of EU and to the US Congress to organize parliamentary hearings on solving Transnistrian conflict. The document also includes informing foreign business circles (companies, banks etc) about the consequence of performing unauthorized economic activities on the left side of Nistru River. At the same time, on the base of this report a course of lessons will be elaborated for the higher education institutions. The report “Unfreezing a conflict: aspects of the separatist crisis in Moldova”, elaborated by the Bar Association of New York city and launched on July 18 in Chisinau, ends with the conclusion that Transnistria has no right to foreign self-determination or secession, the privatization results in this region might remain unrecognized, and that Russia is responsible of maintaining the separatist crisis and of its consequences.
