The Internal Affairs vice-minister Veaceslav Zubic stated that the explosion that claimed 2 lives and injured 10 more in Tiraspol is an act of revenge, and not a terrorist attack as the Tiraspol authorities believe. The IAM official told reporters on Friday, August 18, that the main suspect of the incident, a man from Slobozia, planned this attack to get back at an ex-boss of his, which fired him and his wife. According to the Ministry’s version, on Sunday, August 13, the man was headed to the patron’s house with 3 grenades. At some point the man dropped the grenades, and fled the trolleybus at the nearest station to escape the blast. One of the grenades exploded, and the other two were found in the trolleybus, according to the vice-minister Zubic. According to Zubic, the people from the left side of the Nistru River don’t trust the law enforcement forces from Tiraspol and try to solve all their problems by themselves, especially as weapons are widely available in the area. Valentin Zubic qualified the declarations of Antiufeev that forces from Chisinau were involved in the “terrorist attack” as aberrations. In the blast from the Tiraspol trolleybus a man aged 59 and a girl aged 6 from Cita, Russia, perished. There are also children amongst the 10 injured, including an 11-month infant.
