Intercommunity cooperation in Gagauzia

The villages Congaz, Cotovscoe and Chioselia Rusa of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, in which one of the ten intercommunity cooperation projects supported by the Joint Integrated Local Development Program will be implemented, will spend the US$100,000 grant on equipment for cleaning the roads and green areas and for collecting waste.

Asked by IPN, deputy mayor of Congaz Mihail Esir said that as there are no garbage dumps and a sewerage system, the village looks dirty though the people keep their homes and the areas around clean.

“The medical unit should be renovated. We also need money for the center for orphans. The elderly people would like to have public transport through the village because Congaz is very large. We have thought about such a project for three years, but the roads are of a very poor quality and the buses would not resist long. We thus decided to use the grant to purchase a multifunctional excavator and two new tractors,” said the deputy mayor.

Overall, 40 settlements of Moldova will receive financial assistance from the Government of Denmark within ten projects supported by the Joint Integrated Local Development Program. The program is coordinated by the State Chancellery and implemented by UNDP and UN Women.
