Intensified work regime on border following Paris attacks

Following the deadly Paris terrorist acts of November 13, the Border Police ordered immediately taking additional measures with a view to ensuring the security of the people crossing the state border, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Border Police, a more rigorous work regime was instituted at the most popular border crossing points (the Chisinau International Airport and a number of checkpoints on the border with Romania and Ukraine).

It was also ordered increasing the number of employees at the border crossing points with an increased passenger flow and intensifying the border control, especially with regard to persons from or coming from states where armed conflicts take place and from countries neighboring these states.

It was decided to actively engage canine teams in baggage check so as to detect explosives and in crowded places and to use special devices for thoroughly examining motor vehicles.

The cooperation with the national and international law enforcement bodies will be stepped up so as to identify activities that could pose a threat to the public order and security. The earlier trained Border Police employees will be placed on alert and an increased number of passengers, especially suspect persons, will be checked, up to 80% from the current level of 15%.

A mourning day for the victims of the Parris attacks of November 13 was declared in Moldova. The state flags all over the country and at Moldova’s embassies and consulates abroad will be flown at half-mast and the victims of the Paris terrorist acts will be commemorated by observing a moment’s silence at 12 noon.
