"Integrity has priority in customs posts", anticorruption campaign

The Customs Service declares zero tolerance for acts of corruption. The "Integrity has priority in customs posts" campaign will be carried out at all border customs posts. Customs Service director Alexandru Iacub said that this initiative aims to make both customs officers and citizens responsible so that things happen correctly, IPN reports.

"Corruption never sleeps and, in this regard, we must always be careful, especially at the strategic facilities – the customs posts - where there is an increased risk of the commission of illegalities, smuggling, trafficking," Alexandru Iacub noted at the campaign launch event at the Leușeni border crossing point.

The campaign is organized by the Customs Service, the National Anticorruption Center and the European Union High-Level Advisers’ Mission.

"Modeling, integrity in the future. We always talk about how much corruption affects the economy and integrity of a country. We need to understand the measures to combat corruption. Communication is something very important," said Rosario de Blasio, EU High-Level Adviser on Customs and Tax Policy in the Republic of Moldova.

The "Integrity has priority in customs posts" campaign will be conducted during December 6-11. Citizens who cross the border will be offered leaflets that contain a QR code. Once scanned, citizens will be able to directly report a case of misconduct or abuse committed by customs officials.
