Information Center “Genderdoc-M” to mount equality march this year too

The Information Center “Genderdoc-M” during a week will stage different activities within the 13th annual festival of the LGBT community of Moldova “Rainbow over the Nistru”. On May 17, when it is marked the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, there will be mounted again an equality march titled “It’s time to be yourself!”. In a news conference at IPN, the organizers said the march will involve about 100 people.

The Center’s executive director Anastasia Danilov said the festival will be opened in the afternoon of May 13, in the yard of the head office of “Genderdoc-M, where a ceremony will be held to hoist the festival’s flag. The movie “My Child” (Turkey, 2013) will be screened at Odeon Movie Theater at 7pm. It will be subtitled in Romanian and English.

An event titled “Living Library” will take place at the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu” at 2pm on May 14. Here the visitors will be able to find out information about the life of the homosexuals, gays and lesbians. The event is aimed at promoting the respect for the human rights and human dignity, attracting attention to the diversity in all its forms and stimulating dialogue between people. The same day, the film “Patrik, Age 1.5” (Sweden, 2008), will be shown at Odeon Movie Theater, at 6pm.

On May 15, the homosexuals will lay a commemorative garland and flowers at the Monument to Victims of Repression on Calea Orheiului St. The event will take place at 11am. In the afternoon, a workshop entitled “Critical approach to the norm” will be held at the head office of the Civil Rights Defenders. An evening of LGBT dignity will be staged at “Faraon” club at 9pm.

A conference themed “Is Moldova a leader in guarantying the LGBT rights in the region” will be held at Flowers Hotel on May 16. The LGBT community will also organize an open-air event entitled “Art against homophobia and transphobia”. It will take place at the Open Apartment at 68 Bucuresti St.

The march titled “It’s time to be yourself!” will be mounted on May 17. Program coordinator at “Genderdoc-M” Angela Frolov said the place where the march will be staged will not be yet announced for security reasons. The application for holding the march was submitted to the Chisinau City Hall. The march will be a special one as it will involve supporters of the rights of the LGBT community, including representatives of NGOs, parents and friends of members of the LGBT community, representatives of embassies, including the Embassy of Sweden and the Embassy of the UK.

“Our goal is to show that we exist and that we have rights that must be respected,” said Angela Frolov. She added that the police will ensure security during the march.

The movie “Adele: Chapters 1 and 2” (France, 2013) will be screened at Printing House No. 5 at 7pm. In the evening of May 18, there will be shown the play “Dear Moldova, can we kiss just a little?”, at the theater-washhouse.

Last year, the march of the LGBT community was interrupted at not even half way because of the opponents who waited for the marchers at the Summer Theater in “Valea Morilor” Park, where the event was to end.
