Influence peddling at Moldova’s Railways
The deputy head of a branch of Moldova’s Railways Company asked for US$150 for helping a person get employed. In a communiqué, the Anticorruption Center says that the functionary claimed he had influence on persons holding responsible positions at the company and can make them favor the employment of the given person, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The servant was arrested on the territory of the branch where he works in the act of taking the US$150 marked ‘bribe’. He faces a fine of 20 000 to 60 000 lei or two to six years in jail for influence peddling.
Since the start of this year, the Anticorruption Center has dealt with 39 cases of traffic of influence.
