Inauguration of new President contested in Georgia. Maia Sandu's message

In the context of the installation of the new President of Georgia and the protests against this, the President of Moldova Maia Sandu on X platform published a message of support for the courage and determination of the Georgians in the fight for a European future, IPN reports.

"We stand with the people of Georgia in the fight for freedom, democracy and a European future," wrote Maia Sandu.

Georgia's new head of state, Mikhail Kavelashvili, considered an anti-Western politician, was sworn in on Sunday, succeeding former pro-European President
Salome Zourabishvili.

According to the AFP news agency, quoted by Agerpres, the inauguration ceremony took place amid massive protests initiated following an appeal made by Salome Zourabishvili, with at least 2,000 people, on Sunday morning, in front of the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi, against the new President of Georgia, Mikhail Kavelashvili.

Salome Zourabishvili announced that, although she left the Presidential Palace, she considers herself the "only legitimate President" of Georgia and promises to continue fighting against the Georgian Dream party, which supports the new head of state, Mikhail Kavelashvili.

The ruling party last month froze negotiations with the European Union until 2028, halting the pro-European national goal enshrined in the country's constitution. As a result, the freeze generated widespread protests and the detention of more than 400 people, including opposition politicians.
