In Washington Maia Sandu asked the US to continue to support the Republic of Moldova

In Washington Prime Minister Maia Sandu asked for the continuation of support for the Republic of Moldova, as well as the adoption of a bilateral resolution in this regard by the US Congress, "in support of the democratic transformation of Moldova". The request was made during the meeting with Congressmen Pete Olson and David Price, co-chairs of the Political Support Group for the Republic of Moldova in the US Congress, IPN reports.

According to a press release from the Government, Maia Sandu requested the support of the United States of America in the investigation of the bank fraud and support for the independent media from the Republic of Moldova.

The prime minister gave assurances that the Chisinau government was determined to restore democracy in the country: “The government is committed to dismantle the system created by the former regime, to fight corruption at all levels and to truly reform the judiciary. People need to know that they will receive justice.”

The officials also discussed the territorial issues of the Republic of Moldova. In this context, the Prime Minister appreciated the constant support of the US regarding the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

"For the moment there is no political solution to the Transnistrian problem, but we will not accept a solution that will keep Moldova in a grey area. We want to have the possibility to continue the western path without any intervention”, declared Maia Sandu.

Congressman David Price said that the United States of America would continue to support Moldova and that it was necessary to demonstrate that visible progress was made in the area of democratization, and also that the October local elections had to be free and fair.
