The authorities will pay compensation to the economic agents affected by the increase in the electricity charge, PAS deputy chairman Radu Marian stated in the program “Resumé” on RliveTV channel. The MP noted that the Government will apply a mechanism to support entrepreneurs who use electricity in the production process. The measure comes as a result of the electricity suppliers’ request to increase the charge, IPN reports.
The head of the Parliament's commission for economy, budget and finance said that the compensation mechanism for economic agents will be announced in the immediate period and aims to reduce the inflationary phenomenon generated by the increase in charges.
"We will come up with a support package not only for consumers, but also for economic agents that rely heavily on electricity in the production process, in order to reduce the impact on prices as much as possible. We are working and we will announce a support mechanism to mitigate the inflationary phenomenon," promised the deputy chairman of the ruling party.
Radu Marian reminded that Moldova had been in an atypical situation for many years, as a large part of the consumed electricity was produced from gas offered free of charge. He noted that the transition to a fair payment system had to take place anyway.
"The increases in charges are generated by the Russian Federation’s actions with regard to the Transnistrian region. We purchased a large part of the electricity from the Kuchurgan power plant, which produced electricity from gas offered for free. It was an atypical situation. Anyway, at some point this transition to a fair pricing mechanism had to take place. We are ready to intervene and make this transition as less problematic as possible for the citizens," explained Radu Marian.
The over two times increase in electricity charges was requested on Thursday by the two main suppliers in the country, Premier Energy and FEE Nord.
