In case of death of service members, family members benefit from allowances

If a contract service member of the National Army dies in the line of duty or before the expiry of one year of the transfer to the reserve following injury suffered in the line of duty, the family members benefit from an allowance divided into equal parts, the Information and Media Communication Service of the Ministry of Defense has said.

The Ministry’s press officer Ala Diaconu has told IPN that the allowance is equal to the monthly salary that was to be paid the month the service member died or was transferred to the reserve for a period of ten years. The allowance payment method and conditions are set by the Government.

If the service member is offered a business apartment, his family in case of his death cannot be evicted during three years without providing another dwelling to it instead if this does not have a home on Moldova’s territory. The family benefits from medical assistance in military medical institutions in accordance with the legislation.

The children of service members at the place of residence are given priority at preschool and general education institutions and at summer camps.

The costs of the funeral of the service member who died in the line of duty are covered by the military unit.

On July
3, lieutenant major Ivan Ciobănica, who worked in the National Army since 2012, died as a result of an accident while fulfilling his duties at Military Camp No. 142. The lieutenant wanted to lend a hand to service members and stop a military vehicle under repair, whose brake broke down. As a result, Ivan Ciobănica was crushed between two vehicles. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Ten accidents that resulted in the death of service members in the line of duty occurred in the National Army since 1993.
