In 2009 elections the stake will be high, analyst Igor Munteanu

Russia and the European Union are two foreign players that establish the rules of the political game in Moldova. In the 2009 parliamentary elections the stake will be high, and the policy in Moldova after elections will be different. Such an opinion was expressed by political thinker Igor Munteanu, the executive director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The analyst thinks that the ruling party’s unfulfilled promises to create new workplaces and increase salaries are recorded by the other political parties and will be used as instrument in the election campaign. The Transnistrian conflict is also a crucial issue for Moldova. “The Moldovan authorities are in a dilemma. Transnistria’s 2008 debts of 42 million dollars are a test. If these debts are repaid, the other 2 billion (Transnistria’s foreign debts – e.n.)” should be also settled,” Munteanu said. The last number of the Economic Monitor predicts that this year will see the crystallization of credible political poles: Liberal, Social-Democratic, Democratic and other parties will appear towards autumn. Also in autumn, under the pressure of the Council of Europe and the European Union, the Parliament will have to review the electoral legislation that bans the creation of electoral blocks, removing thus the serious deviations from the international norms, experts of IDIS “Viitorul” say.
