Illumination in Chisinau as a technical, financial or political problem
The Chisinau authorities have to pay from the city coffers about MDL 9 mln to “Lumteh” Company, money owed for repairing the public illumination network of the city.
The head of the General Transport Department, Veaceslav Tarna says that the there were included financial means in the local budget for the maintenance of the public illumination system this year, but there are no resources planned for the network development. However, the public illumination is working on 65% of the territory at present. Tarna says that three years ago the system worked at 14%.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca was displeased with the fact that before the elections the city was illuminated during the night but after the elections the illumination is not as good. He asked the persons in charge from the City Hall to investigate the problem and in case the problem is only technical to solve it.
Veaceslav Tarna assured the mayor that in the regions where the network was renewed no one is disconnecting power supply on purpose, saying that the problems could be only technical.
At the same time, he said he will propose to the Chisinau Municipal Council a project on the increase of the tariffs for “Lumteh” in connection with the recent electricity price hikes.
