Illicit trade continues in central Chisinau
The interim Mayor of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu states that on several streets around the Central Market people still practice illicit trade despite the efforts of the local authorities to eradicate this phenomenon.
Ursu declared on Monday, August 7 at the meeting of the City Hall that on Bulgara and Cojocarilor streets, booths are placed in the middle of the road.
Because of unauthorized trade with dyes, technical alcohol and other flammable materials practiced in some courtyards, there is a permanent risk of fire hazards.
According to Ursu, the local street vendors do not have any authorizations, or they use expired documents. He criticized the local civil servants who do not undertake any kind of actions for solving the situation and he admitted that they could have been bribed.
The interim Mayor solicited the Exceptional Situations Dept. to verify if the safety regulations are respected in the area, keeping a personal conviction that they aren’t. At the same time, he asked the municipal police and to the Trade Department to undertake proper actions in order to stop the phenomenon.
