The crisis cell that manages the COVID-19 pandemic should have included representatives of the parliamentary majority and opposition and of extraparliamentary parties and civil society. This way, the responsibility would have been divided equally and this would have helped strengthen Moldovan society, Ilian Cașu, vice president of the Our Party, said in a public debate titled “Political colors of international assistance in times of pandemic” that was staged by IPN News Agency.
“Chicu, Dumbrăveanu and Dodon saw in this crisis cell a manipulation, a show instrument. They aim only to obtain political advantages from the pandemic by manipulation and lack of transparency. They were concerned only with political shows and wanted to gain political advantages at a time when the people suffer and die from COVID-19 in hospitals. Igor Dodon is already in the election campaign prior to the presidential elections and this is evident. One does not need to be a political expert to realize this,” stated Ilian Cașu.
Moreover, he considers the Prosecutor General’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center and the Security and Intelligence Service should provide a response to society as to the disappearance of humanitarian aid.
Ilian Cașu noted President Igor Dodon is one of the key figures who politicize the humanitarian assistance that comes to the country. It is important that this aid reaches the people, the frontline personnel, but corruption, theft elements are witnessed here and this is worrisome. “There are two elements: 1) Dodon’s intention to make an election campaign element of the aid and 2) the theft element that should be investigated by the law enforcement bodies.”
The ruling parliamentary parties that are directly responsible for managing the situation in the field of international assistance didn’t accept the invitation to IPN’s debate, while the representatives of the opposition parliamentary parties that also have particular involvement in this issue weren’t invited so as not to distort the balanced character of IPN’s debates.
The debate “Political colors of international assistance in times of pandemic” was the 133rd edition of the series of debates “Developing political culture through public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
