Igor Popa, who was suspended from the post of prosecutor and is under investigation, was excluded from the Board for Prosecutor Selection and Career by a decision taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors, IPN reports.
As the post fell vacant earlier, the vacancy will be occupied by the next substitute candidature on the list. This is Eduard Bulat, according to the list that was approved by the General Assembly of Prosecutors in 2016.
The deputy chief of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office and head of the Ciocana Office Igor Popa is investigated on five counts. The investigation was started based on suspicions that the prosecutor filed false tax returns. More exactly, he knowingly didn’t include particular data in the property and personal interest statements. It comes to real estate owned by his cohabiting partner, which represents common residential space. This information was to be reported, as the law provides.
Igor Popa was detained on November 9, 2021. He was placed under house arrested and later under judicial control.
