Igor Grosu: Russia’s goal in Moldova is to erode confidence in government

Russia cannot intervene militarily in Moldova thanks to the Ukrainian army that defends the whole of Europe, stated Igor Grosu. However, according to the Speaker, Russia uses propaganda and voter corruption in Moldova to erode people’s trust in state institutions.

Igor Grosu says that Moscow is relying on the Shor group to destabilize the situation in the country.

“The Russian Federation cannot intervene militarily against us thanks to the Ukrainians, who are fighting for themselves, for us and for the whole of Europe. Now with the US Congress decision, aid is coming and the aggressor will get the well-deserved response. The instruments that Russia employs against us are twofold: dirty money that is used to corrupt voters, and propaganda. The aim is to erode people’s confidence in the state. For example, the bogus bomb threats at the Chisinau Airport are all part of the Russia’s playbook. This is why the agencies have intervened and must continue to intervene to stop all the cash flow, so that all these cases are investigated and sent to court, and all those responsible are convicted”, Igor Grosu said during a public affairs program on TVR Moldova.

However, Igor Grosu is skeptical that the Shor group could take over power in Moldova.

“I see the members of this organized criminal group. They don’t have any potential, no matter how big and strong they might appear. They are scared, believe me. This does not mean that we should underestimate them. They know that there is a Criminal Code with articles on high treason and separatism. They are not so naive as to think this will go unpunished. Look at some of the politicians who once were very obedient and promoted Russia’s agenda. Now it’s over for them. He (referring to Igor Dodon) is making crazy efforts, he is trying to prove that he is on top, but Russia’s cynicism in relation to such politicians is great. Now Russia has made a very clear decision, they have put the bet on those bandits”, said the Grosu.

On April 21, Moscow hosted the launch of the Moldovan opposition bloc Victoria. The entity is formed by satellites of the former Shor Party, which has been declared unconstitutional.
