The Republic of Moldova will have a new security strategy based on the geopolitical realities and the economic capacities of the country, said Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. “Our wish to step up cooperation in the fields of security and defense with the European Union materialized through the launch of the High-Level Security Dialogue,” the official stated in the 22nd edition of the Bucharest forum “Parliamentary Intelligence-Security”, IPN reports.
The Speaker noted that Moldova should strengthen national security, stability and resilience to any danger. This will be possible also due to the new strategy that will be a complex and multidimensional document.
Igor Grosu said the security of a state does not consist of military protection only. “The war started by Russia against Ukraine showed to us how many threats and risks it brings for a state like the Republic of Moldova. We thoroughly analyzed each weakness and I want to assure you that all the law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova work day and night to ensure citizens’ security. But we surely need assistance. We have many reliable friends in Europe and the United Sates and only together we will overcome all these problems,” Igor Grosu posted on social media.
The European Union extended the new European Peace Facility to cover Moldova too as from 2021. At the end of June, the Council of the European Union adopted an assistance measure worth €40 million in support of the Moldovan Armed Force under this Facility.
