Igor Dodon: We are obliged to honor heroism and sacrifice of veterans

“We are obliged to honor the heroism and sacrifice of the veterans of World War II and to keep the memory of those who died in battle for the Great Victory,” said President Igor Dodon. On May 9, he took part in a solemn ceremony held at the Memorial Complex “Eternity” to celebrate the Victory Day, alongside Prime Minister Pavel Filip, MPs, veterans and representatives of the diplomatic corps working in Moldova, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon and his family also took part in a march entitled “Undying Regiment” that was staged to commemorate those who fought in the Great Patriotic War. Participants in the march carried portraits of relatives and soldiers killed on the battlefield.

President Dodon told the press that such events are held practically in each locality and they involve thousands and even hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country. “This is good as it means that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, despite all the attempts made to overlook the events related to the Great Patriotic War, perceive this day as the Victory Day,” he stated.

Igor Dodon also attended a festive concert held in Balti on the occasion of the Victory Day. On the same occasion, a concert was given in the central square of Chisinau. This featured national singers Nelly Ciobanu, Olia Tira, Natalia Gordienco, the bands “DoReDos” and “SunStroke Project” and others. Russian singer Valeria was the special guest of the event.
