Igor Dodon suggests raising also switching of MPs at PDM’s referendum

President Igor Dodon proposed that the referendum suggested by the Democratic Party (PDM) should include a point on the banning of the switching of MPs from one group to another, IPN reports.

On November 13, the PDM proposed holding a referendum concomitantly with the parliamentary elections set for February 24, 2019. In the plebiscite, the people will pronounce on the proposal to reduce the number of MPs from 101 to 61 and also on the possibility of withdrawing the seat of MP by the voters when they are not satisfied with the MPs’ work.

Igor Dodon considers that by banning the switching of MPs, the noxious practice when a party with a modest initial share in Parliament can obtain the largest parliamentary group owing to switching and takes thus over  will be excluded. The migration of MPs should be banned by law.

After the parliamentary elections of 2014, the Party of Socialists that was then headed by Igor Dodon won 25 seats of MP. Now the Socialist group has 24 MPs. The PDM that entered Parliament with 19 seats of MP now has a group with 42 members in Parliament.
